The producers for Terminator 5 have reportedly picked Alan Taylor to direct the franchise reboot. Taylor is known for having directed several Game of Thrones episodes and also directed Thor: The Dark World.

Sources for Variety said that Taylor is in talks with Annapurna Pictures and Skydance Productions, who are co-producing the film with Paramount. TheWrap also reported the news, but reps for the studio and Taylor have not commented.

Annapurna, which is run by Megan Ellison, announced in June that Terminator 5 will be released on June 26, 2015. While it is intended to be the first part of a standalone trilogy, Arnold Schwarzenegger is expected to play a role. He is the face of the franchise, having appeared in the first three films. His face was also used in the final sequence in 2009’s Terminator Salvation.

Ellison’s brother, David Ellison, will co-produce under his Skydance, which has a deal with Paramount.

Variety reports that they also considered Rian Johnson, Ang Lee and Prisoners director Denis Villeneuve before deciding on Taylor. The director won an Emmy for helming an episode of The Sopranos and directed six Game of Thrones episodes. His Thor sequel hits theaters on Nov. 8.
