Four people are dead and three are critically injured after a car collided with a pickup truck on a desert road in northern Los Angeles County on Saturday night.
The crash occurred at around 6:30 p.m. in Lancaster, CA, reports CBS Los Angeles. California Highway Patrol Sgt. Tom Lackey said in a statement that the Honda ran a stop sign and broadsided the pickup truck, which sent both vehicles careening off the road.
County fire spokesman Tony Akins said in a statement that, when firefighters arrived at the scene, they found both the vehicles in a ditch on the side of the road. Four people were already dead from the crash when they arrived.
He also said that all four of the dead were either in their teens or their early twenties.
"It was definitely a very powerful impact that unfortunately stole the life of four people," Lackey said, according to ABC News. He added that at least two of the people who died in the crash were not wearing their seat belts.
The three people who survived the crash were taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition.
The Honda was holding five people at the time of the crash. CBS reports that three of the passengers in the Honda were killed upon impact, as well as one person in the truck.
None of the victims’ names or ages have been released by authorities.
