Stubbs the cat, mayor of Talkeetna, Alaska, was attacked by a dog on Saturday night.
On a routine nighttime walk about his town, Mayor Stubbs was attacked and bitten into by a dog that was off its leash.
The Huffington Post reports that the 16-year-old bureaucratic feline survived the attack, but suffered a punctured lung and a fractured sternum.
Lauri Stec, owner of the town’s general store and Stubbs’ owner, detailed Stubbs’ injuries to CNN.
"He had a big gash on his side about 4-5 inches long and once we got him to the vet we found out the gash went down to his organs," Stec said. "Right now is a crucial time cause he's heavily sedated on pain meds. He's in a lot of pain."
Thursday night, on his Facebook page, Stubbs posted a happy update for his fans and well-wishers, despite his tragic attack.
“Thank you once again for your tremendous outpouring of love since my attack. I had the tube from my lung taken out today, and have even had a bit of an appetite (though no mouse hunts are in my immediate future).”
In the post before, he shared a picture of himself in bandages, and his message sounded positive.
The canine culprit has not been found or identified.
