Breaking Bad’s finale may be the end of Walter White’s story, but it will not be the end of Saul Goodman. AMC has greenlit a spin-off starring Bob Odenkirk’s character, Saul Goodman.
Rumors that AMC and Sony TV were interested in continuing Saul’s adventures beyond Breaking Bad began in April, just before the final season of Breaking Bad got under way. Then, creator Vince Gilligan said in an interview in July that the project was definitely possible and now it is really happening.
According to CNN, AMC announced a licensing agreement with Sony TV for the new series centering on Saul, Walter’s lawyer. The series will be a prequel to Breaking Bad.
“Plans call for Saul to be a one-hour prequel that will focus on the evolution of the popular Saul Goodman character [played by Bob Odenkirk] before he ever became Walter White's lawyer,” the statement reads, notes MTV.
Gilligan will not be overseeing the show. Instead, Breaking Bad writer/producer Peter Gould will be the showrunner. No casting information or a premiere date was announced.
