A startling new study proves that Americans are 12 times more interested in reading about Miley Cyrus’ provocative MTV Video Music Awards performance than what’s going on with Syria.

In the days that followed Cyrus’ performance with Robin Thicke on Aug. 25, the United States was planning a military attack on Syria.

As shown by Outbrain.com, a company that gives the “related links” we see on websites like e CNN or ESPN, there was 8,104 stories about Cyrus and 19,568 about what the Obama administration was planning with Syria.

However, articles about Cyrus counted for 12 percent of page views while stories about Syria were only read by 1 percent of Americans, NY Magazine reports.

In the days following the VMAs, Cyrus stories were read eight times more on an international scale.

The day after the performance, CNN’s managing editor Meredith Artley even wrote an article called “Let Me Explain Why Miley Cyrus’ VMA Performance Was Our Top Story This Morning.”
