James Cameron and Arnold Schwarzenegger are not reuniting on Avatar 2, contrary to a report published Monday.
The Latino Review published an ‘exclusive’ story on Monday, suggesting that Schwarzenegger would star as the bad guy in Avatar 2. It would have been the former California Governor’s first role for Cameron since True Lies. The two also made the first two Terminator films together.
But hopes for a reunion have been dashed. A spokesperson for Fox, the studio co-producing the Avatar sequels with Cameron, told Variety and The Hollywood Reporter that the Latino Review’s report is complete bunk.
“No truth to this,” the rep told Variety.
The Latino Review is known for making splashy claims, but sometimes it gets news right. The site had reported first that Bradley Cooper would voice Rocket Racoon in Guardians of the Galaxy and the news was confirmed by Marvel a few hours later.
Cameron confirmed that Avatar 2 will be out in December 2016, with two more films following in 2017 and 2018. Josh Friedman, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver and Shane Salerno will be writing the films with Cameron.
