The prospects of going up against 12 Years A Slave at the Oscars must be scaring Hollywood studios. Sony Pictures Classics has become the latest studio to move its Oscar bait, in this case Bennett Miller’s Foxcatcher, out of the 2013 Oscars race.
SPC said that Miller, who directed the Best Picture nominees Capote and Moneyball, and the rest of the crew need more time to finish work on the film, notes Deadline. It was originally slated for release on Dec. 20 and was set to premiere at the American Film Institute festival in November.
A new release date for Foxcatcher was not announced. The film co-stars Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo, who play Olympic wrestlers and brothers whose relationship with John du Pont (Carell) lead to a murder. A trailer for the film was recently released.
Foxcatcher is the latest film to move out of the 2013 Oscars race. Earlier this week, it was confirmed that THe Weinstein Company will wait until next year to release Nicole Kidman’s Grace Kelly biopic Grace of Monaco. Paramount’s Oscar contender, Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf Of Wall Street might also be delayed, since it’s reportedly not ready for its planned November release.
