A deep-sea gelatinous fish known as the blobfish has taken the title of world’s ugliest animal.

In a video posted Thursday, Simon Watt, President for Life of the Ugly Animal Preservation Society, announced the winner of the world’s ugliest animal contest.

"So you’ve been voting in your tens, hundreds, thousands! Well… lots, anyhow, for your favorite ugly animal,” Watt said enthusiastically for the camera. “The votes are in and have been counted and verified. The mascot for the Ugly Animal Preservation Society is... the blobfish!"

More than 3000 votes were cast in the contest for the world’s ugliest animal, and 795 of them were for the blobfish, according to The Guardian.

The blobfish, a fish that lives at depths of anywhere from 2,000 to 4,000 feet beneath the sea, is pale pink, gelatinous, and wears a permanent grumpy frown. To top it off, it has a big, goopy nose and beady, black eyes.

Not exactly a pretty sight.

Thankfully for the blobfish, the Ugly Animal Preservation Society is dedicated "to raising the profile of some of Mother Nature's more aesthetically challenged children," according to CNN.

The blobfish made the top of a list of 11 contenders for the title of ugliest animal. The list included other animals such as the proboscis monkey, which has been bestowed with a larger-than-average nose, and the kakapo, a large, flightless bird from New Zealand.
