Some Superman fans have already decided that Bryan Cranston would be the best man to play Lex Luthor in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel sequel, but the Breaking Bad star downplayed rumors that he’s already signed a six-picture deal to play the character.
In an interview with the Boston Globe, Cranston was asked if he’d heard of the rumor.
“I’ve heard that too,” he said. He laughed when the publication brought up that he was supposed to play Luthor in six movies.
“Six? This is all news to me,” Cranston said. “I think that maybe my name is bandied about because I’m known to be bald. ‘What bald guy can we get?’ The reality is they can take any actor and shave his head or put a bald cap on him.”
Cranston can only blame himself for allowing fans to link him to Man of Steel 2. Last month, he told Metro, “I like Lex Luthor. I think he’s misunderstood. He’s a loveable, sweet man.”
Then, after Ben Affleck signed on to play Batman in the film, Comic Book News claimed that Cranston was already signed on to play Luthor in six films. That blog noted that Warner Bros. wants to make the announcement after Breaking Bad ends.
Cranston is currently in Boston for the play All The Way, in which he plays President Lyndon B. Johnson. After that, he plans on directing an episode of Modern Family.
“I think I’ll relax the rest of the year,” he told the Globe. “There’s some irons in the fire, things that people are talking about, but nothing is set.”
