Burger King has begun selling Satisfries, which are supposed to be healthier than their normal fries.

Satisfries are designed with a coating that absorbs less oil and reduces calories by 30 percent and fat by 40 percent compared to McDonald's fries, Businessweek reports.

The fries were developed over a two year period by McCain Foods, who are only able to sell these particular fries to Burger King. The new BK fries will cost around 20 to 30 cents more than their normal fries.

Satisfries are not meant to be a replacement for the old fries, but rather a healthier option, spokesperson Adrianna Lauricella says.

The New York Times says that 70 grams of Satisfries has only 150 grams, compared to 226 of McDonald's.

"You live in Manhattan and might be having a kale smoothie on your way to work this morning," Chief Marketing Officer Eric Hirschhorn said. "But a lot of people don't even know what kale is, and if they do, they don't want to eat it. You have to give people what they want.

Satisfries are crinkle-cut to help distinguish the difference between the fries.

Burger King's current owner 3G Capital has been investing money and time to update its menu by adding healthier options, such as mango smoothies and cranberry apple salads.
