As Keurig K-Cup coffee makers find their way into more and more homes, the company looks for new innovations to bring to customers. Now, Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc. is teaming up with Campbell's Soup Co to turn the coffee makers into soup brewers.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the soup cups will work similarly to the coffee, tea and hot chocolate pods that work in Keurig machines.
Campbell's spokeswoman Carla Burigatto announced that a new soup pod can be put into the machine and will dispense a "flavorful hot broth.” Users can then mix the broth in a bowl or mug with a packet of dry pasta and vegetable blend garnish that comes with the cups.
Since the machines have a self-cleaning mechanism, Keurig users don't have to worry about soup flavor contaminating their coffee.
Delish raves about the product's innovative possibilities. Denise Morrison, President and Chief Executive Officer of Campbell Soup Company, said, "Campbell is connecting with consumers in new and exciting ways. We expect this delicious Campbell’s Fresh-Brewed Soup to provide consumers with a flavorful, convenient soup that fits their lives today."
The Campbell's K-Cups were tested and enjoyed by consumers, proving that the K-Cup market is a successful one in this day and age. Last year, 46 percent of the money spent on coffee or espresso makers belonged to single-serve machines, according to the Huffington Post. Will Campbell's soup K-Cups be just as successful?
The “fresh brewed soups” should hit the market in 2014
