Award winning actress Cate Blanchett makes directorial debut with an adaptation to a Herman Koch novel.
Deadline reports that Blanchett will direct an adaptation of The Dinner, a novel by Herman Koch.
The Dinner was published in 2009 in Dutch. It wasn't until earlier this year that it was released in English. It is a psychological thriller about two brothers and their wives who are having a fancy dinner. Their sons are both connected to a crime that reveals itself as the dinner progresses.
When asked in an interview with TIME if she had any interest in directing, Blanchett revealed that she has had prior directing experience.
"If the right project came along, absolutely," Blanchett said. "I've directed things in the theater but it's very much based on the material. I'm not out there looking. I'm very happy working as an actor."
Blanchett was co-artistic director of the Sydney Theatre Company. She also directed the plays Blackbird and The Year of Magical Thinking.
It is not known whether Blanchette will star in the film.
