CNN has decided to push up the premiere of the new incarnation of its Crossfire debate show a week earlier, citing the crisis in Syria.
The news network announced the return of Crossfire in June, confirming that former House Speaker Newt Gingrich would join S.E. Cupp, Stephanie Cutter and Van Jones to debate the topics of the day. Crossfire originally ran from 1995 to 2005.
CNN told The Hollywood Reporter Monday that the show will premiere on Sept. 9 at 6:30 p.m., a week earlier than initially planned. “We've been doing rehearsals, the set is ready, the hosts are ready," Sam Feist, CNN's Washington bureau chief, told THR.
CNN reached the decision following President Obama’s statement to the nation on Saturday about the ongoing conflict in Syria. The president decided to take the issue to Congress, which will debate on what action the U.S. should take next week.
Crossfire will be just a half-hour and will feature guests to talk with the main panel of right and left-leaning pundits.
