After months of silence, Coldplay re-emerged Friday with their new song “Atlas,” which will appear on The Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack.
The ballad begins with a melancholy piano introduction, which eventually leads to Chris Martin’s soaring vocals. Rolling Stone described the song as classic Coldplay.
Playing off the song's ethereal sound, the accompanying lyric video features shooting stars, orbiting planets, and zodiac constellations. The celestial video ends on a final image that fans of the Hunger Games franchise will be sure to recognize.
“Atlas” is the first music the Grammy award winning band has released since announcing their three-year hiatus last November.
According to Coldplay’s Twitter, “Atlas” is available worldwide (except in the U.K. where it is available for pre-sale), however no release date for the complete soundtrack has been set. The Hunger Games: Catching Fire hits theaters Nov. 22.
