Thirteen children were injured on Sunday by a children's swing ride at the annual Oyster Festival in Norwalk, Connecticut.
CNN reports that the ride lost power, causing the swings and the children in them to fall to the ground. Many of the children walked away with minor injuries, but several more were seriously injured.
Following the accident, all the rides were shut down to let officials proceed with further investigations. The Norwalk Seaport Association's Facebook page stated that their “first and only concern is for the wellbeing of those involved and their families. We directed Stewart Amusements to immediately shut down the ride area, which will remain closed until the State Inspector has completed a thorough inspection.”
After thorough investigations by the Connecticut State Police Fire and Emergency Investigative Unit, another statement was made on Facebook, announcing the green light on amusement park rides at the festival. As of Sunday afternoon, officials had “authorized Stewart Amusements to reopen the other rides for the remainder of the evening. Stewart has also reinspected all of the other rides. Our concerns remain for the wellbeing of those involved and their families.”
