Over two million dehumidifiers are being recalled – extending from a dozen different brands and a time span of over eight years. For something that's supposed to do good, these devices have apparently done the exact opposite.
According to The Inquisitor, the faulty devices created just under 50 fires and upwards of $2 million in property damage. No injuries have been reported.
Gree Electric Appliances manufactured the fallible appliances. The company carried the brand names of Danby, De'Longhi, Fedders, Fellini, Frigidaire, Gree, Kenmore, Norpole, Premiere, Seabreeze, SoleusAir and SuperClima. Many of these machines were reported to overheat, smoke and start on fire.
The Christian Science Monitor reports that the affected products were sold across the nation from January 2005 to August 2013 at stores like Home Depot, Kmart and Lowe's.
Check out the tag number on your dehumidifier if you've bought one in the last eight years, then take a look at the list of faulty dehumidifiers, and if yours makes the list, make sure you turn it off immediately and unplug the device. Then call Gree at 866-853-22802 so you can receive a full refund on your purchase.
