Vincent Bright, a Detroit man accused of stealing his father’s corpse back in January, has been ordered by a judge to take medication to treat his mental health issues and was put on probation.

Police said that Bright went to Gethsemane Cemetery in January to take his 93-year-old father’s remains. According to USA Today, investigators said that Bright had hoped to resurrect his father. Police found the body in a freezer in Bright’s basement.

He was in court last month to enter a guilty plea for disinterment of a body and was sentenced to 18 months of probation today by Wayne County Circuit Judge James Chylinski. The judge gave him credit for the 225 days he has already spent in custody. Chylinski also ordered him to take medication for his mental health.

“You have to prove to the probation officer that you’re taking the medication,” Chylinski said, reports The Detroit Free Press. “If you don’t do that, then I got to lock you up, and I don’t want to do that.”

Gerald Karafa, who is Bright’s court-appointed attorney, said that his family is still supporting him and that he is on his medication. “He went through a bad period, a lot of stress. ... He's doing fine. He's on his medication,” Karafa said, notes The Associated Press.
