The creators of the crime-fighting RoboCop statue plan to unveil it next summer.
The Associated Press reprts that the Venus Bronze Works in Detroit showedthe 10-foot-tall model to the Detroit News and the Detroit Free Press.
A movement began in 2011 after the rise of a social networking campaign raised the money to help fund the project.
John Leonard, a Detroit graphic designer, used his Facebook page to initiate the Kickstarter campaign for the statue, USA Today reports. He will work alongside project manager Brandon Walley.
The unveiling of the final statue is set to take place Summer 2014. Giorgio Gikas and his team at Venus Bronze Works and Center for Conservation, Jim Matson's Warren Ally Foundry and James Viste's Edgewise Forge are all involved with executing the project.
The 1980s film involving the robotic super cop was set in a futuristic, crime controlled Detroit.
They hope the new statue will bring in tourist dollars and become a pop culture landmark.
"I think it complements a lot of the other positive things that are happening in the city," Leonard said.
A RoboCop film remake is set to be released 2014.
