Disney Theatrical Productions announced on Monday the cast for the new Broadway musical of Aladdin.
James Monroe Iglehart has been cast as Genie, The Wall Street Journal reports. It's the role Robin Williams played in the film version.
Iglehart, who wanted to be Genie in Aladdin when he was 17, said, "It took three wishes from the time I was 4 to 39."
"I can't wait. I am looking forward to this challenge but truthfully I want to have as much fun as I can and ride this bad boy out as far as I can."
The 39-year-old was previously in the Tony Award-winning Memphis and first appeared in The 25th Annual Putnam Country Spelling Bee.
"I've loved this role since I was 17 and I first saw the cartoon," he said.
Other's cast are Courtney Reed, who has been selected to play Jasmine, while Tony award nominee Jonathan Freeman has been cast as the villain, Jafar, according to The New York Times.
The musical will feature several songs from the 1992 movie, including "Whole New World." There are also going to be several new songs written for the musical.
The director and choreographer is Tony winner Casey Nicholaw, the music is from Oscar and Tony winner Alan Menken, with lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice.
Aladdin is set to first run in Toronto before going to Broadway beginning Feb. 26, 2014. It will officially open in the New Amsterdam Theater on March 20.
