A family in South Carolina claims that they discovered their babysitter was abusing their 7-month-old baby because their dog told them about it. Benjamin and Hope Jordan caught the sitter being violent with their baby, Flinn, after their dog acted strange with the woman.
According to the Daily News, Kilian, their dog, started acting aggressively towards the 22-year-old babysitter every time she got near the baby. "About five months into her being our baby sitter, we started to notice that our dog was very protective of our son when she would come in the door," Benjamin told WCSC.
"He was very aggressive towards her and a few times we actually had to physically restrain our dog from going towards her."
Because of the dog's unusual behavior, the couple decided to put an iPhone under a couch cushion one day and recorded Khan when they were away. What they discovered when they returned at the end of the day was shocking. The recording caught the babysitter cursing multiple times and slapping their baby every time he cried.
"It started with cussing. Then you hear slap noises and his crying changes from a distress cry to a pain cry,” Jordan said. "I just wanted to reach through the audio tape, go back in time and just grab him up.”
After the family caught the sitter red-handed, they reported her immediately. They were immensely grateful for all of their dog's warning signs.
"Had our dog not alerted us to the trouble, had my wife's instincts not said we need to make something happen, it could have been Finn that was killed by the babysitter. You never know."
Alexis Khan, the babysitter, now faces up to three years in prison, charged with assault and battery. She has been placed on the child abuse registry and will never work with children again.
Finn is uninjured and doesn't show any negative signs from the abuse.
