Rapper Drake admitted that he and Nicki Minaj were on rocky terms but are now friends again.
On his new album Nothing was the Same, Drake expresses his feelings about Nicki Minaj in his song "Tuscan Leather."
"I gotta stay with the family," Drake raps. "Not even talkin' to Nicki/ Communication is breakin'/ I dropped the ball on some personal sh**, I need to embrace it/ I'm honest. I make mistakes. I'd be the second to admit it/ Think that's why I need her in my life, to check me when I'm trippin'."
Minaj spoke to Funkmaster Flex of Hot 97 back in July, around the time when rumors were spreading about the feud between her and Drake.
"Whatever is going on now, obviously we're all very busy and you know, sh** happens," Minaj said. "It gets a little hard to have a real connection when people are on different sides of the world, working on different things. You just never know who people got in their ear or what they're feeling or maybe they felt wronged in some way. I don't know. I just know that Drake is my baby and Wayne is my everything."
The song was written almost a year ago, but Drake explains that the two are on speaking terms now.
"That line in 'Tuscan Leather' isn't exactly where I am in my life right now but like a year ago...eight months, seven months ago, it was how I felt," Drake tells MTV. "I'd done something wrong and I wasn't speaking to her."
In an interview with Power 106, Drake elaborated on the fact that he and Minaj are on good terms.
"The album is a journey, so the first song is not where I'm at in my life right now," Drake said. "I started this album a year and a half ago, and it did kind of go in chronological order, for the most part. That song kind of picks up at an earlier point in my life. I had done something that I had to just reevaluate and fix. We're good. We definitely talk. I saw her the other night. It was all love."
Drake would not give details about what started the grudge, but his lyrics show that he was upset about the situation. He has not spoken to Minaj to get her take on the song since it was released.
