Reports are flooding in about a 5.3 earthquake occurring near the Fukushima, endangering the same nuclear power plant which suffered catastrophically from a different earthquake in 2011.

The Huffington Post is reporting that as of 1:29 EDT (2:29 a.m. Friday morning in Japan) a 5.3 ‘quake hit near the plant after initial reports came in from the Japan Meteorological Society. Thankfully, The Weather Channel has been keeping everyone up to date through their Twitter account and have reported that there is no tsunami threat – just to ease everyone’s minds.

The Christian Science Monitor has also been talking about the earthquake. Their most recent update includes a statement from the Tokyo Electric Company, which is also claiming that the nuclear facility has not been harmed. The CSM has also quelling public fears by issuing a reminder that the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe has ordered a decommissioning of the last two reactors at the plant as of Thursday.
