Mohamed Ibrahim, the Egyptian interior minister, survived an assassination attempt while leaving his house early Thursday morning.

An investigation on the incident led officials to believe that the explosion stemmed from three explosives fastened to a motorcycle, controlled by a remote control. The interior minister who escaped the explosion by moments remains uninjured, reports The New York Times.

Ibrahim told reporters, “What happened today is not the end but the beginning.”

Since the military ousting of former Egyptian president, Mohammed Morsi, hundreds of his supporters have been killed by the militant government. His supporters, known as the Muslim Brotherhood, have been accused of violence and terrorism by their government.

Bystander of the scene, Ahmed Mahmoud, told Reuters, “Innocent people have died today but the government needs to know that terrorism will bring more terrorism and violence will bring more violence. So when they use violence to disperse protesters, despite our opinion of those Brotherhood protesters, what did they expect to get in return?”

Among varying numbers, officials say that two people have been killed and at least ten injured.
