The Bloomberg Fair in Pennsylvania ended Friday on a sad note. A helicopter pilot died after being struck by the rotor, authorities said.
Carl Enlow, 69, died Friday night when the rotor struck him, organizers said, reports The Associated Press. The helicopter was refueling when Enlow went back to speak with another pilot who was ready to take over for him. William Barratt of the Bloomsburg Fair Association said that his hat flew off and he bent over to pick it up. Enlow was then hit by the rotors.
“He went back to talk to the other pilot, and that's when the rotor struck him,” Barratt told PAHomepage.com. “That just goes to prove that anything can happen.”
Dawn Kingston of Bloomsburg added that Enlow had been doing this for years. "I'm sure that a lot of people who return to the fair probably know him."
Heritage Rotors owned the helicopter and has been giving fair visitors rides since 1993. A memorial fund was set up for the Enlow family and donations can be sent to the Bloomsburg Fair Association.
Montour County Coroner Scott Lynn told the Bloomsburg Press-Enterprise that the death is still being investigated.
