At around 2:15 a.m. on Tuesday, two armed men wearing masks broke into a home in Clayton County GA, and eventually left with 14-year-old Ayvani Hope Perez.
Upon entry, the men demanded money and jewelry. Maria Perez attempted to conceal her two children from the intruders, but they were soon discovered, says CrossRoadsNews.
"She[Maria Perez] did not have any money and jewelry so they shot the dog and kidnapped the 14-year-old," Phong Nguyen, a police spokesman, said.
Perez was taken from the home in a gray Dodge. At the time of the abduction, she had been wearing blue and gray Star Wars pajama bottoms and a blue and gray superhero shirt.
An Amber Alert has since been issued.
Kvue reports that the break-in was most likely random.
"It didn't appear that they knew each other," Nguyen said. "They [the Perez family] just moved in about a month ago."
The kidnappers are now stipulating a $10,000 ransom for Perez's safe return.
Perez is four feet and nine inches tall. She weighs 93 pounds and has brown eyes and black hair.
