With another hugely successful box office bow the Insidious two-parter will now become a trilogy. After a $41 million box office smash Insidious: Chapter 2 proved that folks aren't tired of the scares. Sony and Film District have already green lit and begun pre-production on a third outing. Although series director James Wan may not be at the helm of the third chapter.
Wan reported to Moviefone that he will be moving away from the horror genre stating, “I'm going to go on record and say I am finished with the horror genre, The Conjuring and Insidious 2 are my two last scary movies.” While it seems Wan is out, the series screenwriter Leigh Whannell is still on board and is hard at work on the third script.
According to Variety everyone except Wan is planned to return, including producer Oren Peli. Wan is currently in production with the new Fast & Furious film. With the first Insidious being made with only a budget of $1.5 million and grossing $97 million world wide and the second one looking to be on the same track, it's easy to see why a third one is already being slated for production.
