American musician Jake Heggie is turning 9/11 stories of love, loss and grief into a compilation of joyous songs twelve years after the attack on America which claimed the lives of nearly 3,000 men, women and children.
The Associated Press reports that Heggie is used Grammy award winning songwriter Gene Scheer to help create the lyrics from stories straight from those who were affected by the September 11 terrorist attacks.
One song features the voice of a fireman who helped sort through the rubble at ground zero. He says, “And everything belonged to somebody/To somebody gone/And we all belonged to each other/From that moment on."
Heger spoke about his new album,here/after (Songs of lost voice) saying the album is meant "to create a sense of hope and newness that can come from the grief. Otherwise, the people who did it win."
The CD features baritone Nathan Gunn and Talise Trevigne, a soprano. You can check out a preview of the album in the video below. The double CD of here/after (songs of lost voices) goes on sale Oct. 21.
