Katy Perry has admitted that she had suicidal thoughts after her marriage with comedian Russell Brand fell apart.
In an interview for Billboard magazine, the "Roar" singer was asked about the lyrics to song "By the Grace of God," The Mirror reports.
"That song is evident of how tough it really was at a certain point," Perry said. "I asked myself, 'Do I want to endure? Should I continue living?' All the songs are real-life moments."
She added, "I can only write autobiographically. I put all the evidence in the music."
In the interview Perry said that she contemplated committing suicide while lying on the bathroom floor after her marriage ended.
Perry also commented that she hasn't heard from the British comedian since he broke up with her in 2011 via text message. Something that is referenced in another song, "Ghost," which features the lyrics, "You sent a text / It's like the wind changed your mind."
In more positive news, the singer released a new song off her upcoming album, Prism on Monday morning.
The newest track is called "Waking on Air," and Perry has called the new track a "universal love song."
Prism is out in stores Oct. 22.
