Just days after releasing her new music video, PETA calls foul on Katy Perry.
The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) criticized Perry for her use of animals in her music video for Roar.
"Animals used for entertainment endure horrific cruelty and suffer from extreme confinement and violent training methods," Merrillee Burke, a PETA spokesperson said in a statement. "They often become stressed and anxious when hauled around and forced into unfamiliar or frightening situations."
Perry's video features monkeys, elephants, and tigers.
PETA believes that the Serengeti Ranch provided Perry with the animals seen in the video, and that the Ranch has been inspected by the Us Department of Agriculture 22 times since 2001.
Perry was once praised by PETA for her vegetarian lifestyle with ex-husband Russell Brand. Now she is being criticized for the improper use of animals in her video.
Roar is currently No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, as well as the UK Singles chart.
Perry's album Prism is due to release Oct. 22.
