Kelsey Grammer is breaking into action movies. A few months after being cast in Transformers 4, the former sitcom star is joining Expendables 3.

Deadline reported back on Tuesday that Grammer has been cast in a role that Nicholas Cage was once considered for. That role is Bonaparte, a former mercenary who decides to help the main Expendables team.

While Grammer had been best known for Fraiser, he has become a tough guy for Hollywood since his role on Boss. That Starz series won accolades, but few viewers and was cancelled by Starz after two seasons. His performance in that show is what lead to Michael Bay casting him in Transformers: Age of Extinction in May.

The casting for Expendables 3made headlines earlier this summer when Sylvester Stallone sent a tweet calling Bruce Willis “greedy” for pulling out of the project. Hours after Willis pulled out, he was replaced by Harrison Ford. Other members of the cast include Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham, Antonio Banderas, Mel Gibson and Jet Li.

The film is expected to hit theaters in August 2014.

Grammer isn't completely leaving comedy behind, though. He will be starring in an FX sitcom with Martin Lawrence.
