As if the Las Vegas skyline wasn't breathtaking enough already, the Las Vegas strip is now adding the world's largest Ferris wheel. The High Roller ride will measure 55 stories high and will open next year.
The project is nearing completion and can be seen from all over the city now, according to Yahoo! News.
The Project Director of the High Roller spoke with excitement about the ride's place in Vegas. "It's going to be an icon. It's going to be a part of your visit to Las Vegas if you ride it or not. It's more or less impossible not to see it if you come here."
The Daily News reports that the gigantic outside frame will be set on Tuesday.
The Ferris wheel will be a part of the Linq development, which should open this winter. The plaza, which is located across from Caesars Palace, along with the wheel, were developed by Caesars Entertainment Corp. and will total about $550 million.
Since the ride will move slow, taking about 30 minutes for a full revolution, riders will be able to drink inside the secure, glass pods that can fit up to 40 people. Since the ride manufacturers don't want riders to “get bored,” there will be video screens in each enclosure as well. For night-time riding, 1500 LED lights will light up the attraction. Tickets are projected to cost around $30.
When asked to comment about the High Roller being outdone by larger Ferris wheels, like the one planned for New York City, Codiga simply said, "but the High Roller will allow you to float over Las Vegas."
