Leonardo DiCaprio has signed on to produce and star in an upcoming biopic on President Woodrow Wilson. The film would be based on the biography written by Scott Berg, and Warner Bros. is said to be in early negotiations for it.
If all goes well, DiCaprio would produce Wilson along with Appian Way's Jennifer Davisson Killoran and Berg.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Berg’s book on the 28th president just came out last week to mostly positive reviews. He paints the president, who was elected in 1912 and was in office during World War I, intimately and downplays his controversial side of civil rights for African Americans.
E! Online notes DiCaprio isn’t a stranger to this era in American history, he has experience in films such as J. Edgar and Titanic, and he embraced the roaring twenties The Great Gatsby. It was rumored that DiCaprio would join forces with Martin Scorsese again to play Theodore Roosevelt in The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt, but the film never took off.
Wilson was president for two terms – spanning from 1913 to 1921. He's known for starting the Federal Reserve, launching the League of Nations and helping seal Treaty of Versailles.
