Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions have picked up Life of Crime, which will be closing the Toronto International Film Festival on Saturday. The film is based on The Switch, a novel by the late Elmore Leonard and stars Jennifer Aniston.

The film’s cast includes Mos Def, Isla Fisher, Will Forte, Mark Boone Junior, Tim Robbins and John Hawkes and features characters who appeared in Rum Punch, the novel that Quentin Tarantino’s Jackie Brown was based on. It is set 15 years before Rum Punch and finds Ordell (Mos Def) and Lewis (Hawkes) trying to kidnap the wife (Aniston) of a Detroit businessman (Robbins).

According to Deadline, Lionsgate and Roadside picked up the film after its screening for press and industry executives. The two companies have worked together before on Margin Call and Much Ado About Nothing, which both saw successful multi-platform releases. However, Deadline says that the two are looking to release this film theatrically.

The Hollywood Reporter notes that Lionsgate and Roadside did not say when they plan on releasing the film domestically.

The film was adapted and directed by Daniel Schechter, who told Deadline that he had Leonard’s blessing. It joins a long list of films and TV shows based on Leonard’s work. Leonard died in August at age 87.
