A deadly high-speed chase occurred between a man suspected of shooting two women and South Florida police on Wednesday.
Miami police responded to a call regarding a domestic disturbance at around 9:45 a.m. on Wednesday, when the suspect, 48-year-old Antonio Feliu, shot his estranged girlfriend and then her daughter at their home in South Miami Heights, according to Miami Herald.
Feliu’s estranged girlfriend, 51-year-old Vivian Gallego Martinez, was pronounced dead at the scene. Anabel Benitez, her 28-year-old daughter was brought to Kendall Regional Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
After the shooting, Feliu fled from the scene in his black Mercedes Benz Crossover and was pursued by police. According to CBS Miami, he dodged in and out of traffic as he led the police on a high-speed chase through the city until he t-boned a car while passing through an intersection.
The driver of that car, a woman named Maritza Medina, was pronounced dead at the scene after she was ejected from her car upon impact.
According to the New York Daily News, gunshots were heard coming from Feliu’s SUV after the crash. Police found Feliu dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound when they approached his car.
Detectives are still working to see what may have caused Feliu to shoot two women and then flee in his car. The Miami Herald reported that Feliu had a history of traffic violations as well as an arrest in 2009 for driving while under the influence.
