A man was arraigned on murder charges and ordered held without bail Thursday after he brutally beat to death an innocent pastor on Aug. 20 in Brockton, Massachusetts.

Lee Harmon, 74, was riding his bicycle home from his disabled daughter’s house on Clinton Street when him and Carlos R. Velazquez got into an argument. Velazquez then used a hammer that Harmon had been carrying to viciously beat him with.

Velazquez, a 26-year-old landscaper, was arrested Wednesday for the attack. According to Boston.com, Velazquez was arraigned in Brockton District Court by Judge Ronald Moynihan while over 20 friends and family members of Harmon watched the ruling.

Officials say the men did not previously know each other and there was no motive for the killing.

“This was a savage beating of a 74-year-old man that shocked and sickened our community. The State Police Detectives from my office and the Brockton Police have worked tirelessly to bring the person who murdered Lee Harmon to justice,” stated District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz, CBS reports. “I thank them for their hard work and dedication. I also want to thank the State Police Crime Lab for their outstanding work in analyzing the physical evidence in this case. Finally, our thoughts and prayers are with the Harmon family.”
