Actor Matt Bomer is the man Fifty Shades of Grey fans would rather see playing Christian Grey in place of Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam. One petition is even trying to get Universal and Focus Features to reconsider the decision. Bomer responded to the fans, sayign that he was “touched” by their support.
As we previously reported, a Change.org petition with over 48,000 supporters wants Bomer and Alexis Bledel to take the lead roles.
While Bledel, who fans would rather see as Anastasia Steele instead of Dakota Johnson, said last fall that she was freaked out by fan trailers that had her in the project, Bomer remained relatively quiet.
Entertainment Tonight caught up with the White Collar star to get his response to the petition.
“I'm so grateful for the fans and touched,” he told the site. “I'm looking forward to seeing the movie with Charlie and Dakota.”
Bomer fans shouldn’t worry about his future though, since White Collar’s fifth season starts next month on USA. He said that Neal Caffrey, his character on the show, will bet to be a “bad boy” this season. “Neal's starting to realize that he doesn't have to be a good boy all the time and that maybe not doing the right thing is what he's best at,” he told ET.
Johnson and Hunnam were confirmed for the roles on Monday. Fifty Shades doesn’t hit theaters until August 2014.
