Matthew McConaughey's wife didn't like his weight loss for 'Dallas Buyers Club'

For his role in The Dallas Buyers Club, Matthew McConaughey lost a lot of weight, but his wife wasn't a big fan.

Variety reports that McConaughey lost about 40 pounds for his role as Ron Woodroof.

"My wife wasn't too fond of it," the actor said. He added, "I actually had a lot of energy at that weight."

Losing the weight "was the easy decision," the actor said, omg! Yahoo reports. I would have been embarrassed standing here looking like I do now playing the guy."

According to The Wrap, McConaughey's co-star, Jared Leto also lost 40 pounds for his role as Rayon, a transsexual with AIDS.

The Fight Club actor said he "stopped eating" to lose the weight. "It was 30 or 40 pounds. After awhile I stopped counting."

As previously reported, Club is about cowboy Woodroof who is told he has 30 days to live after an HIV diagnosis. Realizing there was little drug help at the time in the U.S., he turned to smuggling in alternatives from other countries.
