Michael B. Jordan, who caught the attention of audiences and critics for his performance in Fruitvale Station earlier this year, is reportedly being considered for Roland Emmerich and Fox’s Independence Day sequel.
According to TheWrap, Jordan is being considered for a major role. However, the site does note that no offers have been made and the production is still in the very early casting stages. Jordan hasn’t even seen an offer yet.
Sources for the site say that Emmerich is looking for young stars to be in the film, which is set to be the first of two sequels to his iconic 1996 film. Fox executives do think Jordan would be good for the film and a source close to Jordan told TheWrap that he is interested.
Back in May, TheWrap had also reported that Jordan was being considered for the Human Torch role in Fox’s Fantastic Four reboot. He’s also planning on starring in a Rocky spinoff titled Creed, that his Fruitvale Station director Ryan Coogler will direct.
It is still not known if Will Smith plans on returning in Independence Day 2, which is titled ID Forever Part 1. Emmerich had commented that smith may be “too expensive” for the film, but he backtracked and said he hopes Smith can at least make a cameo. Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman will also make cameos.
ID Forever Part 1 is currently scheduled for July 3, 2015. TheWrap notes that Emmerich has met with Amazing Spider-Man writer James Vanderbilt and producers Dean Devlin and Harald Kloser about the film.
Reps for Fox and Jordan did not comment on the report, so nothing is confirmed.
