New Jersey Judge Vince Sicari was told he couldn't be both a comic and a judge, so he resigned.

Sicari said, "I was beyond proud to be a judge and I consider myself lucky to have done two jobs I loved," to ABC News. "But, I respect the court's decision."

The 44-year-old judge went by the stage name of Vince August and said he has been performing since the 1990s. It wasn't until his appearance on the hidden camera show What Would You Do? that anyone seemed to have a problem.

The unanimous ruling against being both said, "The judge's acting and comedy career is incompatible with the Code of Judicial Conduct and therefore he may not serve as a municipal court judge while continuing with that career."

According to The New York Times, Sicari portrayed homophobic and racist characters for the What Would You Do?. The judges weren't sure someone watching the show would be able to understand that Sicari was just acting.

Sicari isn't too upset since he has said that his entertainment work provides him with health benefits as a part of the Screen Actors Guild and pays better than being a part-time judge.

"I've been balancing these professions my entire career. I have a passion for all of them. If I didn't have a passion, this wouldn't be a Supreme Court case."
