With the release of the new Iphone 5S on the horizon, rumors of some of its new features and capabilities have run rampant, the newest in reference to a fingerprint sensing feature on the Iphone's home button.
The sensor will apparently serve as a means of authenticating a user on their device, much like the passcode feature on the home screen of the Iphone does now. This new feature would be a big step for Apple products, as Wells Fargo analyst and AllThingsD contributor Maynard Um told USA Today that the finger print scanner, "addresses enterprise security issues for Apple and will open up that market to the company more."
Apple apparently is also looking to find a way to use the sensor as a form of biometric authentication for payments. In this regard, Apple would not be alone in such a pursuit as PayPal president David Marcus remarked, ”Within the next two years the vast majority of high-end smartphones will have biometrics and mainly fingerprint logins. It’s going to be very useful for payments," Forbes cites.
While the truth of whether the new Iphone 5S will actually include a fingeprint sensing feature has yet to be officially confirmed, recently leaked photographs suggest that it is a definite possibility. Lookout for the upcoming Iphone 5S release to find out for yourself.
