Actress Octavia Spencer is narrating the audio edition of her children's book.
The Washington Post reported last year that the publishing company Simon & Schuster plans to publish a book written by Spencer.
It will be a two-part series for middle school children about a 12-year-old vigilante from Brooklyn who has a Tae Kwon Do black belt. She moves to Tennessee to live with her dad after her mother dies. While there, she gets involved with a mystery involving the town's time capsule.
The first book is entitled Randi Rhodes, Ninja Detective: The Case of the Time Capsule Bandit.
In a press release, Spencer said she used Nancy Drew and Encyclopedia Brown as an influence for her new book.
The Associated Press reports that Spencer will be narrating the audio addition for the book, set to be released Oct. 15.
Spencer won an Academy Award for best supporting actress for her role in The Help. She said her background as an actress helped bring her narrative to life.
