An Ohio father and five young children were killed Sunday when a fire erupted in their mobile home.
The Tiffin Police Department received a call early Sunday morning at around 8 a.m. that a fire had erupted at a mobile home in Highland Trailer Park. Within minutes, emergency services were on the scene, but they found the mobile home completely engulfed in flames, according to The Toledo Blade.
Nancy Williams, manager of the mobile home park, said that she ran to the home to try and help as soon as she was alerted that there was a fire.
“I knew there were babies in there,” she told the Washington Post. “But once we got there, there was nothing we could do. It was fully engulfed in flames and we couldn’t get in.”
About 30 members of the town’s volunteer fire department assisted the city’s fire department in putting the fire out. NY Daily News reports that they were able to extinguish the fire quickly, but they remained on scene for a few more hours.
The six victims were pulled from the mobile home and were taken to Tiffin Mercy Hospital where they were all pronounced dead.
The man who was killed was reportedly identified as 25-year-old Timothy Fresch, and the youngest victim was his one-year-old son. The other four children, ages three to six, were all daughters of Fresch’s girlfriend Anna Angel.
Angel was out at work when she got the call that a fire had started at her home. She is the only member of the family who survived.
