Despite having a full year without Paranormal Activity the 5th installment is finally ready to begin production and has found a director. This October audiences will be taking a break from visiting Katie Featherson and Toby the demon who have been haunting the big screen since the first installment screened in 2009. Although audiences won't have to wait the full year to see (or not see) Toby, a spin-off film entitled The Marked Ones coming from the same producers is due for release in January 2014.

According to Empire the new director is long time editor of the series, Gregory Plotkin who also produced two of the films. Although this will be his directorial debut, replacing Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman director(s) the past two installments.

The 5th film will also be getting a new set of writers according to an article on /Film Jason Pagan and Andrew Deutschman will be developing the script. While Plotkin is directing this, he is also producing The Marked Ones which is being directed by Christopher Landon who wrote the past three films, so everything is staying within a tight knit Paranormal family. The Marked Ones will hit theaters on January 3, 2014. Paranormal Activity 5 will land sometime in October of 2014.
