Patsy Swayze, a dancer and choreographer whose son was the late Dirty Dancing star Patrick Swayze, has died at age 86.
Publicist Annett Wolf told the Los Angeles Times that Swayze died on Monday at her Simi Valley home. While Wolf provided no further information, the Houston Chronicle has reported that she suffered a stroke earlier this month. The National Enquirer notes that she had died following hospice care with her family surrounding her.
Swayze was born in Houston on Feb. 7, 1957. She founded the Houston Jazz Ballet Company, ran her own studio and continued to be active in the dance community there. She taught dance for 18 years at the University of Houston, before Hollywood came calling in 1980. Her first film as choreographer was John Travolta’s Urban Cowboy and later trained her son when for Dirty Dancing.
Patrick Swayze died in September 2009, following a battle with pancreatic cancer. According to E! News, Swayze’s husband, Jessie, died in 1992 and daughter Vickie died in 1994. She is survived be her three other children, Don, Sean and Bambi.
