Paula Patton is giving more behind-the-scenes dirt of the MTV Video Music Awards performance her husband of eight years, Robin Thicke, did with Miley Cyrus last month. She said she thought it went great and when she woke up the next morning, she was greeted with concerned text messages from friends.
"It's just so funny, because when I saw him perform I was like, 'You guys killed it!' We hugged each other, we went out, celebrated. The next day, my cell phone [has] all these texts: 'Praying for you.' 'If you need to talk, I'm here,'" she explained.
She also told E! News about her husband’s performance with 20-year-old Cyrus, “Why are people making such a big deal about it? Quite frankly, all my friends dance like that with him. He's like the guy that you can dance with, 'cause he's safe!"
Patton is busy promoting her new film Baggage Claim, and Thicke flew from London to Los Angeles to attend the premiere with her on Wednesday night, USA Today reports. Patton pulled out all the stops in a sheer and lace black dress as she walked the red carpet.
Earlier in the day, she was asked about Cyrus’ comments in Rolling Stone that all of the controversy surrounding her twerk-filled performance was a “double standard” because Thicke did it, too.
"Listen, I think Miley's a really cool girl and it's not fair between men and women," she said. "But he certainly didn't take her and back her up into him...If that's how she feels I totally understand. Robin can handle it."
