A Philadelphia father was arrested Monday for starving his 3-year-old daughter to death.

Nathalyz Rivera weighed a mere 11 pounds when she died, reported Homicide Captain James Clark, according to the Associated Press.

"This is one of the worst cases of abuse that I've seen in my five years on the homicide unit,” Clark said. “Very sad and very disturbing.”

ABC News reports that Carlos Rivera found his daughter dead in their home around midnight, but decided to call her mother instead of an ambulance. The mother then took her daughter to the local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

When officials further examined the body, Nathalyz had several bruises all over. These are believed to be a result of the horrible state of their house, where she may have contracted fleas or rodent and insect bites.
While her body showed “obvious signs of neglect,” the coroner pronounced that her death was a homicide by starvation.

The mother, who is under further investigation, will most likely be charged as well.
