Russian president, Vladimir Putin, warned of possible action if the US and it’s allies launched a military strike on Syria.

The Guardian quoted Putin, “If we see that steps are taken that violate the existing international norms, we shall think how we should act in the future, in particular regarding supplies of such sensitive weapons to certain regions of the world.”

Putin has stated he strongly doubts Syria would use chemical weapons on its people in light of the probable backlash. However, he also stated that if the United Nations proved the culpability of the Syrian government and therefore set a resolution on military strikes, he might then support military action in Syria, NBC News reports.

The US is currently undergoing a series of votes to authorize military action in Syria, which President Barack Obama is strongly pushing for.

In the past weeks, Obama has encouraged a military strike for humanitarian reasons, but recently declared that “it also fits into a broader strategy that can bring about over time the kind of strengthening of the opposition [...] so that ultimately we have a transition that can bring peace and stability, not only to Syria but to the region,” revealing another motive to drive President Bashar Al-Assad out of office.
