Up and coming rapper Azealia Banks, lashed out at Lady Gaga after the pop megastar’s August 28th performance at iTunes Festival.
Banks, who describes herself as a “Cultural Catalyst” complained to her followers via Twitter that Lady Gaga, an “overground” artist is stealing her style:
The overground stealing from the underground is nothing new.

I see so many underground girls get stolen from by pop acts, yet they're too scared to say anything for fear of being disliked....

And then they get swallowed up and forgotten about.......

The style in question is called “SeaPunk” and is grunge sub-genre TheNewYorkTimes defines the “a whimsical style that mashed together cartoonish aquatic themes, rave culture and nostalgia for 90s Internet imagery”.
More known for being Karl Lagerfield’s muse rather than her rap career, Banks trademark style is long multi colored hair.
Fans at the Itunes Festival may have noticed Gaga’s departure from black latex and Alexander McQueen designed garb for long mermaid locks, and in one set of the performance, a seashell bra. The pop diva donned similar attire at the MTV VMAs.
Since Itunes Festival, Lady Gaga has released the track listing for her upcoming album entitled “ARTPOP”. One of the tracks, entitled “Ratchet” originally featured Banks but will be released without the rapper’s verse.
