Arizona Cardinals safety Rashad Johnson lost the top of his finger Sunday during the Cardinals 31-7 loss to the New Orleans Saints.
According to the Arizona Republic, the gruesome injury occurred after
Johnson tackled Darren Sproles on a punt return.
After the play when Johnson walked over to the sideline and took off his glove, the top part of his finger remained inside the glove.
Despite the injury, NFL.com reports that Johnson remained in the game.
He later had surgery and that is when doctors were forced to shave his finger down to the first knuckle. A major concern with the 27-year-old’s injury is that since the bone was exposed, there is a potential threat of an infection.
Johnson was not the only Cardinal to come away from Sunday’s loss with an injury. Linebackers Sam Acho (leg) and Lorenzo Alexander (foot), both suffered injuries and left the game. Hearing about Johnson’s injury though, is the one that has NFL fans feeling pretty queasy today.
