You will always remember this as the time that you...won't see Captain Jack Sparrow on the big screen. Disney just announced that Pirates of the Caribbean 5 will be pushed back from its original release date of July 10, 2015 until the summer of 2016.
Deadline reports that producer Jerry Bruckheimer decided not to rush filming until the script is exactly what they want. More importantly, Johnny Depp, will be returning to play his iconic roll, but is also working on Into the Woods and Alice In Wonderland 2 as well. And perhaps the reasoning has just a bit to do with this summer's The Lone Ranger costing way more than planned.
Disney production president Sean Bailey announced, “We’re not there yet and we want to make sure this project is everything these wonderful characters and of course the fans deserve.”
Disney has enough on its plate anyways. According to Reuters, Pirates 5 being delayed will allow the Marvel film Ant Man to be pushed forward. Instead of its October 2015 release date, the film is now slated for July 31, 2015. And we can never have too much Disney. The Avengers sequel, their first installment of the Star Wars franchise, and Pixar's Inside Out are all in the works and on the horizon.
When Pirates 5 does arrive, we can expect something incredible because of the time the team will have to put it togehter. “Like audiences around the globe, we have high expectations for Jack Sparrow’s next adventure and we want to have all the right elements in place,” Bailey said.
The first four Pirates films grossed a combined $3.7 billion, with On Stranger Tides bringing in just over $1 billion. Will the next film be just as popular?
